Annual All-Church Retreat
Every year, we travel as a church family to the Montreat Conference Center in beautiful Montreat, NC. The 30th annual First Presbyterian Church All-Church Retreat is scheduled for March, 2018. Visit this site again for upcoming information!
The weekend is always filled with inspirational discussions and fun, family-oriented activities. Child care is available for children age 4 and younger. Our featured facilitator will lead us with lectures and discussion sessions. Each year is inspiring in a unique way. Bring the whole family!
FPC Serves: Annual Day of Service and Beyond
Each year on the federal holiday that honors Dr. Martin Luther King, our church organizes a large corps of volunteers to work all over our city. We coordinate volunteer opportunities, match people with tasks, and provide transportation to work sites.
In 2014, over 120 members of our church, ages 9 to 80, went out into the community to distribute food and clothing at the Catholic Parish Outreach food pantry; pull weeds and shovel compost at the Interfaith Food Shuttle Community Farm; stamp and pack books and DVDs for Christian Library International; perform administrative and yard work for Alliance Medical Ministry; assist Habitat for Humanity homeowners with repairs and other chores; clean, repair, and move furniture for the Green Chair Project; visit homebound members; and thoroughly clean and dust in our own sanctuary, among other rewarding duties.
Our day began with a ceremony in our parking lot as its new owner claimed the keys to her own car, a gift from a church member to Wheels4Hope.
Habitat for Humanity
We build at least one house every year and have a lot of fun!
We sponsor a quarterly blood drive with a goal of 40 donors, and we're hoping to set a new goal of 50 donors. The date of our next Red Cross blood drive will be announced soon in First Press and can be found on our Upcoming Events page.
To sign up and receive an appointment, go to http://www.redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code First Presbyterian in the box labeled "give blood". You'll be asked to create a username and password.
You can also call Beth Fields or the church office for an appointment, or for more information. While donations are not tax-deductible, they are life-saving!
The various circles that are sponsored by the Presbyterian Women offer multiple opportunities for group Bible study. Check the Presbyterian Women's page for more information about our circle offerings. We periodically offer several other options for adults and teens interested in group Bible study.
Growing Closer is a Bible study course for women that meets weekly at Betty Ann Dorman's home, beginning September 15, 2016. We'll study Acts this year. Growing Closer Bible Study uses the following methods: individual Bible study from a common set of questions; group discussion of these questions; songs; prayer; and warm fellowship. The goal of this Bible study is to grow closer to the Lord through study of His Word and prayer, and growing close to each other in Christian love. Join us for study, some singing, and some great fellowship. Contact the church office if you have questions.
