This year's Spiritual Enrichment Weekend began with a prayer vigil on Thurs., Nov. 4. The FPC Evangelism Committee encouraged everyone to pray for one hour, either at home or at the church. Prayer is a vitally important aspect of spiritual discipline, and during this prayer vigil, we prayed for every member of the congregation by name.
For this year's Spiritual Enrichment Weekend, the Evangelism Committee partnered with youth leaders to offer a full Sunday of family-oriented services. Our guest
pastor was Mark DeVries, a Presbyterian minister who has served as the Pastor for Youth and Their Families at First
Presbyterian Church, Nashville, Tennessee, for the past 24 years. Members of the FPC church family enjoyed hearing Rev. DeVries speak for this year's Spiritual Enrichment Weekend Nov. 5-6.
Every year, we
travel as a church family to the Montreat Conference Center in beautiful Montreat, NC. The 24th annual First Presbyterian Church All-Church Retreat will take place March 2 - 4, 2012. Save the dates!
The weekend is filled with inspirational discussions and fun, family-oriented activities. Dr. Tom Long, Bandy Professor of Preaching at the Candler School of Theology
at Emory University, led us last year, with lectures and discussion sessions that shed light on the 2011 theme, "Earth, Wind & Fire: The Power of God in Worship". This year will be similarly inspiring as we get to know another outstanding preacher. Click here for more information about last year's retreat.

Our first volunteer day was March 5. We meet to work on Saturdays at 8:30 a.m., and our homeowners
are Yarankunze Philipo and Kubembeleza Shagayo, the proud parents of eight children. We are again partnering with White Memorial.
The Philipo family has been in the United States since mid-2007. Yarankunze is originally from Burundi, while his
wife was born in the Republic of Congo. They are looking forward to completing some work on their own home, after having already contributed 165 hours of sweat equity during the Habitat approval process. And we are looking forward to working with them!
