Children’s Sunday School

Children's Sunday School - 9:45 - 10:45 am

Children's classrooms are located on the 1st floor of the Stock Building. Join us on Sunday mornings for Sunday school!  First Presbyterian currently uses the Cokesbury's "Deep Blue" curriculum to teach children ages 3 years through 5th grade all about the love of God through Jesus, and the love for neighbor as self.  All classes employ age appropriate bible stories, crafts, songs, games, and fellowship with classmates.  Our teachers are truly invested in the faith-building and spiritual, mental, and physical well-being of all of God's children! Please know that regular attendance in Sunday school is one of the best ways to help a child feel belonging in the church and help build Bible knowledge and faith formation, so we welcome you to join us every Sunday!

Children's Sunday School Groups

3's class - Teachers: Grace Carmack, Kate Dryden , and Sarah Baker: (see below for description)

4's class - Teachers: Kathy Kesterson, Lora Swindell, and Krissy Wainwright: The 3's and 4's classes focus on teaching the Bible story through crafts, storytelling, and play.  Each week your child will create a tangible object to take home as a reminder of the week's story and an opportunity for you as a family to retell and share the stories together at home!

Kindergarten Class - Teachers: Trish Hoover, Susan Raymond, and Cathy Kramer:  (see below for description)

1st Grade  - Teachers:  Rebecca Ackerson, Amy Clarke, and Kathryn Auman- The kindergarten and first grade classes continue to learn through storytelling and crafts, but the children begin to put the pieces of the story together a bit more for themselves.  They will have take-home materials each week to reinforce the week's lesson and Bible story.

2nd - 3rd Grade  - Teachers: Lene Morton, Mary Katherine Preston, Kathryn Hoover, and Megan Wood Tunnell: The 2nd-3rd grade class begins to focus more specifically on Bible use and knowledge. The children get a take-home sheet each week and participate in crafts, but are asked to use the Adventure Bible to look for key scriptures, play games where they use their bibles to find specific answers to questions, and begin learning the different books of the Bible, as well as how to utilize its elements.  Rising third graders are presented with a bible each year at our annual promotion Sunday breakfast in late August.

4-5 Grade  - Teachers: Betty Ann Dorman and Allison Jourdan: Our 4th-5th grade class does a wealth of Bible study, including art projects, Bible readings, storytelling, and many other modes of learning.  The children get a solid foundation in learning to use their bibles in this class, so that when they head to middle school classes, and Confirmation class in 8th grade, they are well prepared for the journey!

*NOTE: 4th and 5th graders will have the opportunity to learn the Catechism, so be on the lookout for information from the lead teacher. All classes participate in lessons about corporate worship throughout the year, and each class has the opportunity to write and lead a part of worship each spring.
