"For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord."
-- Romans 8:38-39
Anchored in strong faith,
a funeral service at First Presbyterian Church is always a witness to the resurrection. At the same time that we celebrate the life of the deceased and
the everlasting life to be found in Christ after death, we seek to comfort those
who mourn. We give thanks for the life of the departed, and reassure everyone in attendance of God’s eternal promises.
The service may be conducted with or without the presence of the casket or urn.
If a casket is present, it will be closed before the service and covered
with a pall.
Our bereavement meal committee traditionally prepares a meal for the family
before the service. This is helpful for visiting familiy members and other
out-of-town visitors and gives them time to find the church, secure a parking
place in our parking lot, and then have
time to visit with each other before the service.
For more information about bereavement meal preparation, see our
Ministries page.
Family visitation can take place both before and after the service in our
Baucom Parlor, where beverages and simple refreshments may be provided.
If you desire more information about any of the above, contact at the church office at (919) 821–5750.
