A Presbyterian woman . . .   top  >

. . . belongs. She has chosen to be a member of the church-wide organization of Presbyterian Women, which was formed in 1988 by action of the voting representatives.

. . . is never alone. Presbyterian Women are organized and recognized Church-wide. They connect with each other in circles within each congregation, from each governing body to the others, ecumenically with women in other denominations and with the world through their commitment to mission.

. . . is a woman with a past. Presbyterian Women have a rich heritage, with roots in the 19th-century women's missionary societies organized in our predecessor denominations. While women were active in mission and responsive to Christ's call, women were not represented in Presbyterian polity until 1930, when ordination (as elder) was first allowed to women. The first female deacons and elders were elected to serve in our church in 1984.

. . . is in the majority. More than half of all members of the Presbyterian Church are women; more than 300,000 have chosen to be members of PW.

. . . believes in her mission. The constitution of Presbyterian Women is the constitution of the Presbyterian Church (USA), which consists of the Book of Confessions and the Book of Order. Presbyterian Women have characteristics such as

power (from the Holy Spirit),
persistence (in prayer and Bible Study),
peacemaking (and work for justice),
creativity,
circular relationships, and many other qualities that make us ideal church leaders, organizers, and participants.

Bible Study Group - JobStart

Mary Ray, Leader

A Bible study and outreach opportunity will be available to address the spiritual needs of JobStart participants from the Raleigh Women’s Correctional Center (RCCW). Mary Ray is leading a three-month Bible study that meets once a month during each JobStart class, in the Bettie Pennick Room. The fall class meets at 10:00 a.m. on the third Mondays of September, October, and November. The spring class will meet at 10:00 a.m. on the third Mondays of March, April, and May.

Each JobStart participant needs a “Buddy” to attend the Bible study group and to participate in the JobStart Graduation. Contact if you are willing to serve as an “FPC Buddy” to enable one of the JobStart women to attend the Bible study group.

PW Christmas Projects    top  >

FPC members are always generous in their support of our annual Christmas Community Projects. Through these projects, we help share the love and joy of Christmas. Starting at the end of October, we are collecting gifts that we will deliver to The Healing Place for Women/Men of Wake County, which provides rehabilitation and recovery services for homeless women and men with alcohol and drug addictions. We are also collecting donated items to support youth and adults through the Loaves and Fishes Ministry, a nonprofit organization offering after-school programs and other services for K-12 at-risk students and their families.

For the Healing Place, we collect new, unwrapped items like men's and women's clothing and toiletries. For Loaves and Fishes, we'd like to collect gift items for children and teens, such as toys, games, books, DVDs, clothing, and accessories. All items should be new and unwrapped. Click here for a list of suggested items to help you as you complete your holiday shopping.

Donations may be placed in (or near) the labeled bins outside the church offices on the second floor of the Stock Building. Our last collection of gifts for delivery to these organizations will be made the first week of December.

If you have any questions, call Susan Johnson.

Regular PW-Supported Missions   top  >

We have supported multiple mission activities for a number of years. Below, we describe some of the missions that church members have come to identify with the goals, aims, and identity of the wider community of Presbyterian Women over a period of years.

Throughout the year, we also support the following programs: Pennies for Hunger, collected from the congregation once each month; the Turk family – FPC-supported missionaries in Madagascar; Stamp collection for a Congolese Mission Program; Prayer Shawl Ministry; Campbell's Soup label collection for Barium Springs Home for Children.
