of Presbyterian Women, which was formed in 1988 by action of the voting
representatives.
. . . is never alone.
Presbyterian Women are organized and recognized Church-wide. They connect
with each other in circles within each congregation, from each governing
body to the others, ecumenically with women in other denominations and with
the world through their commitment to mission.
. . . is a woman
with a past. Presbyterian Women have a rich heritage, with roots
in the 19th-century women's missionary societies organized in our predecessor
denominations. While women were active in mission and responsive to Christ's
call, women were not represented in Presbyterian polity until 1930, when
ordination (as elder) was first allowed to women. The first female deacons
and elders were elected to serve in our church in 1984.

are women; more than 300,000 have chosen to be members of PW.

her mission. The constitution of Presbyterian Women is the constitution
of the Presbyterian Church (USA), which consists of the Book of Confessions
and the Book of Order. Presbyterian Women have characteristics such as
power
(from the Holy Spirit),
persistence
(in prayer and Bible Study),
peacemaking
(and work for justice),
creativity,
circular relationships,
and many other qualities that make us ideal church leaders, organizers,
and participants.

To whom are spiritual gifts given? What is the
purpose of spiritual gifts? How can I be sure which
spiritual gifts I have been given? Are spiritual gifts
permanent or temporary? What does the Bible
say about spiritual gifts?
Ponder these questions and probe the nature of spirituality in a self-study course we are sponsoring as part of our 2009–
2010 program theme: “Discovering Your
Spiritual Gifts.”
This course consists of recommended monthly readings from a
workbook, Discovering God’s Vision for Your Life: You and Your Spiritual Gifts. The readings, and your interpretation of them, will be supported by brief updates in monthly circle
meetings and a concluding workshop at the church on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010.
Throughout the year, the aim of this course is to help participants
experience spiritual and personal growth, add
deeper meaning and satisfaction to their lives
and their ministry, and to understand more fully
who God created them to be and what God
wants them to do with their lives.
Course registration will take place at the PW
General Meeting on Sept. 21, 2009, when we
will hear more about this course from our Featured
Speaker, Dr. Ed McLeod. A registration fee of $5 per participant is
required to cover a portion of the cost of the
workbook. We are grateful to a supportive
anonymous benefactor for providing the remainder
of the cost.

Summer Special Giving Project: School Supplies top >
The Presbyterian Women will collect donated school supplies during June and July for two community agencies:
Loaves and Fishes and the Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network.
Loaves and Fishes will distribute the supplies to kindergartners through 12th graders in its after-school program, which provides academic and enrichment sessions. The donations to Wake Interfaith Hospitality Network will be given to K through 12 students utilizing the local WIHN Day Center, the daytime base for the homeless families receiving WIHN services. Your donations of school supplies will help these ministries provide needed materials for their students.
All church members are invited to participate. Donations may be placed in the designated container in the Dames Den. Possible donations include academic board games, flash cards, notebooks, book bags, blank CDs, highlighters, index cards, notebook dividers, page protectors, poster board, Post-It notes, pens, pencils, markers, glue sticks, all types of paper.
Click here for more information and a full list of supplies that are needed.
If you have any questions, call Cathy Moss.
PW Christmas Projects top >
Each year, we ask FPC members to help support our Christmas Community Projects. This year we will collect and
distribute valuable gifts to patients at Dorothea Dix Hospital and Central Regional Hospital, and we will also collect
donated items to support the Salvation Army of Wake County's Christmas Toy Store.
For these projects, we help to share the love and joy of Christmas by donating gifts.
The Salvation Army Christmas Toy Store strives to make sure the joy of this blessed holiday reaches
every family. The program helps provide Christmas presents to those families who are in
financial need and have children ages 0-12. A temporary toy shop is established at their
Community Center, and needy families are invited to shop for free for their children.
Our donations of new, unwrapped toys and games will help stock the
Christmas store. All toys are appreciated; however, they do request that you not donate toys
associated with violence.
For the hospital projects, we collect items like men's and women's clothing and toiletries.
Click here for a list of suggested items to help you as you complete your holiday shopping.
Collections have begun for the 2009 projects. We have made several collection boxes available in the Dames Den (the room next to the Chapel, across from the Vanguard Room). Our last collection of gifts for delivery to the hospitals will be made the first week of December, and our last collection of gifts for
delivery to the Salvation Army Christmas Toy Store will be made the following week.
